Opening Reception for Earth Fire Passion on Oct. 6th at 4 – 6 pm

Belvedere Arts is proud to present Earth Fire Passion, a new art show featuring the works of local potters Mark Epstein and Curtis Door.
Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, October 6, 2018 from 4 to 6 pm, where there will be refreshments served and fingerstyle guitar music performed by Steve Blechschmidt.

This show is scheduled to run October 6 to December 8. Don’t miss the opportunity to see this unique and evocative show!

Both Epstein and Door describe themselves as the type to bore easily, and neither is given to create identical forms. Thus, each piece in this show has its own unique identity and is representative of their creative challenges. Both men savor the vigor of life, evident by the intensity of emotion imbued in their vibrant works.
Curtis Door, originally from west Michigan, now lives full time in Pagosa Springs. He studied art at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, with emphasis in photography and ceramics. His early forays into photography steered him to a fulfilling career path away from ceramics, but he eventually returned to his work with clay in 2007. A craftsman, Door easily becomes frustrated by production pottery and so makes every piece a unique, one-of-a-kind work. He enjoys experimenting with natural and man-made components. In fact, he has incorporated the fabric creations of his wife, Candice, in several of his stoneware pieces.
Mark Epstein holds two Master’s degrees from the University of Dallas, Irving, Texas, and teaches classes at Cedar Valley College in Lancaster, Texas. He maintains a studio in Pagosa Springs, shows regularly and presents in workshops nationally. Working in groups or series of pieces, Epstein explores the variations in proportion and dynamics of form. Like a family, the groups have similarities in feature, but retain their own independence. Although functionality is his starting point, aesthetics wins out over function every time. The final review of his work serves as a quiet reflection of inner self, of his mental evolution in an environment mixed with humor and excitement.
The plasticity of the earthen material, the rich colors of fired glazes and the spirited passion of the artists are the elements that will leave an energetic impression upon your soul.
